Deconstructing America: Rhetoric, Ideology and the Democratic experiment
Animal Testing
Summary of this topic:
In this project we learned about all different kinds of projects, but we narrowed it down to just one for each of us we all had different topics are different perspectives on the topic. The people really divided up politically, by conservatives, and Liberals. They are really with their topics and wouldn't look at the other sides topic a lot. Ideology, everyone ether really loved your topic or really hated it, but either way they would listen to your side of what your side was. My topic was about animal testing and how it was morally wrong, and I was on the con side, which means that I think that animals should not be tested on anymore. There was a lot of people's opinions on it but mostly everyone does want to stop testing animals like the green party. People's opinions were every stronghearted and if they were on your side, they would listen to you more but if they were arrest you they didn't care about your side. Our projects had a lot of different views, bot overall it went really well.
Is Animal Testing Morally Right or Morally Wrong?
Personal Connections- Is animal testing morally wrong?
I have seen the looks that animals have given me, the looks for pain, of suffering, of unhappiness. All I see in their eyes “just end it, I can't live on.” Just imagine a world that animals had power over the humans, and humans had no power. This world would show us how the animals feel, like they are being treated like nothing. There would be a different outlook on life. Animal testing is one of the cruelest tortures that an animal could ever go through in life. Just imagine what animals think everyday when they’re cramped in this small place and there's no one that loves them. That's what they are probably thinking when animals are in those small cages, and in the test labs. I know that animals do have a heart and a mind, and the people that are using them as test subjects are treating them like they are nothing. That animals have feelings, thoughts, and emotions, I have animals at my house.
Animals such as dogs that are being tested on aren't getting the real love that they need. My dog, he hurt himself and he looks to me for support, then I give it to him, animals look at us for love. He looks for me to fix the problem to make him feel better, to take away the pain. I can look at my dog's face and see that he is trying to tell me without words what he feels, but I can tell in the way he moves acts and looks. I can feel what he is feeling and all of his pain, I tell him it’s all okay. You shouldn't be harmful to animals just put yourself in their shoes, you get hurt and then you go running to the person that loves you, well what if that very person was the one that hurt you in the first place. I think that some animals don't get that affection that I give to my dog. Other animals are not born into the amazing family like mine. They are born where it all is supposed to end. They never get that beginning start in life, they never have that chance in life, they are born into someone coming up to the them and starting to inject chemicals before they even have their first breath. I can't even imagine, what each and everyone of of those animals go through in their short little life. I believe that animals like domesticated animals are here to give us love, that we can have from people. They are here to live their lives all the way through to grow up with a family, to have babies of their own. They should not be trapped in tiny little cages getting all these chemicals injected in them, and feeling like there is no hope for them. The only way is for me and you to save their lives. Those people that are doing this to the animals. They don't realize how wrong it is to be doing this to animals that have no power over what's happening to them. I think it's inhumane, to be doing this to animals, testing them for our own needs or problems there are so many different ways to stop this from happening. To not use animals for our own advantage, but thinking like they are nothing I can't believe people, feel, and see what they are doing, like I can. I know that animal testing, is morally wrong, it is defenseless and cruel to the animals.
I have a personal deep connection to animals. To be honest I feel like I was an animal, like a dog or cat in my past life. That why I have such a deep connection to them. Animals always love me and always come to me, like my warm fuzzy animal friends. Animals just give us unconditional love, it doesn't matter who you are, to them you are everything. I believe we should be looking up to animals, because animals do have not hate in their lives. So then why do people like to hurt other animals? Just to get what they want and what's better for humans, such as animal testing. Anyone that's like me (humans), have to power to stop this. To stop all hate in this world to see animals suffering like they do. There are ways to stop this hurtful and hateful outcome that animal testing has brought to the animals. My question is, “why can we all be as kind as to the animals that are domesticated, are to other people?” Just remember that if the animals ruled this world, animals would still love us as equals, and they wouldn't test us to find out new products.
Animal Testing is immoral:Testing on animals, is it really worth it?
Testing on animals is a concern for the animal’s health and wellbeing. By having animals tested to find out new cures for humans, the price is an animal for a human life. Is it worth it? Scientists and companies are interested in finding new cures and medicines for people and to do so at the expense of animals, helping people out in the long run. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) reports,“The only U.S. law that governs the use of animals in laboratories, the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), allows animals to be burned, shocked, poisoned, isolated, starved, forcibly restrained, addicted to drugs, and brain-damaged. No experiment, no matter how painful or trivial, is prohibited—and painkillers are not even required.” (1) Animals are getting tortured because doctors and scientists want to conduct research to learn about the possible outcomes of the medicines being tested on them. Many animals get addicted to the drugs that the doctors give them, and it can cause brain damage. The truth of it all is that the researchers are doing these tests on animals to further their own careers and to find cures for the animals but they don't care to think about the animals perspective on the testing. Abuse, even if it is done in a lab, is still abuse. When a citizen keeps a dog chained and underfed, we charge them with a crime for animal abuse. It is no different in a lab. A crime is a crime.
Testing makes the animal feel stressed out and alone. This is abuse to the animals, and having their insides ripped out of them, just to see what one animal can handle is wrong. “And almost ½ of the test they do on animals, are not even worth testing them because more than ½ the results are not effective.” (“Arguments against animal testing writes” 1) Animals that are in these test labs don't get the care they really need. Over 100 million animals suffer and die, in these test labs, that's over ½ the population of the animals that live on this earth. These animals are not all the same, they all have different features every single one of them. Many different side effects that can happen in the animals. Some animals will have different reactions from other animals, and we are only one species, so then it might not have the same reaction on everyone.
Testing on animals, does not show promise that testing on animals will work, there is a low probability that the test results that they find on animals.“It is not surprising to find that treatments showing ‘promise’ in animals rarely work in humans. Not only are time, money and animals’ lives being wasted (with a huge amount of suffering), but effective treatments are being mistakenly discarded and harmful treatments are getting through. The support for animal testing is based largely on anecdote and is not backed up, we believe, by the scientific evidence that is out there.” (“Arguments against animal testing wrote” 1) There are so many things that could go wrong during this process in testing animals, and human trials “rarely work on humans.” The rate of that working is a ever low outcome. Arguments against animal testing writes,“95% of drugs fail in human trials despite promising results in animal tests – whether on safety grounds or because they do not work.”(“Arguments against animal testing” 1) That shows that it's not worth it to be putting lives of animals, in this horrific experiment, to find the path of human success. Humans are not the only living things on this earth, there are animals that help us in other ways, just by using their natural instinct. Mistreatment of animals, using animals for scientific research are not what animals were meant to do on this earth. They have a greater purpose, on being on this earth, like every living thing has. Testing on animals makes them have no purpose in life only the purpose for humans and to help our kind out, but humans put animals in a huge amount of suffering. If it doesn't even work on humans some of the time, then why should we put these animals through all this pain and suffering just to help are benefit? 95% of the drugs fail on human trials, so then why keep doing animal testing if there is no real outcome of the whole thing. Animals have the same rights as human beings, and there is a moral right to animals, it’s not worth the pain for the animals. F. Barbara Orlans says,“Animals have a basic moral right to respectful treatment. . . .This inherent value is not respected when animals are reduced to being mere tools in a scientific experiment"(“Save the animals: Stop animal testing” 26).The price of an animal’s life is a human life. Animals are not just something that is meaningless to life they have a purpose like all living things do in life. It is all not worth the animal suffering, to save a few human lives. Animals lives matter no matter what anyone thinks. The animals rights are violated by just being tested in the first place. F. Barbara Orlans says, ”Animals and people are alike in many ways; they both feel, think, behave, and experience pain.” Animals and humans are not just the same in our biology, but also in the emotions. Animals are not given a choice to be a test subject but they are forced into it, they do not have a right. We should all be treated as one, and animals shouldn't be looked at differently. Is it really worth?
Testing on animals should be legal: We can not have a world without animal testing, can we? Researchers are trying to help mankind find cures, and the animals are helping the researchers, process in finding cures. It will let us look into finding cures, helping people out in the long run, having more knowledge to what's really happening in your bodies. Learning new things about humans could really help improve the way that they think about their bodies. The hope to find new cures and to discover new secrets about the human body. “Models such as these are an essential part of applying biological research to real medical problems, allowing new targets for disease intervention to be identified.” (“Animal Research info.” 1). The animals or models the researchers want to research to find out how to prevent a disease from spreading, and to find a way to prevent the disease from happening. The researchers could have a better understanding of what it does to the human body, because of the animal research testing. These animals can not only help them by curing diseases, but also by helping to target the diseases and identify what it is. The researchers want to do animal trials to make sure it is safe for humans and not to take possibly dangerous risks on humans. “Legally and ethically it must also be tested in a suitable animal model before clinical trials in humans can take place.”(“Animal Research info.” 1) Animals are the best model for humans, because they are alike humans in so many different ways. The researchers can't just be testing themselves first, instead the researchers have an animal take their place instead.
The researchers can't just be killing them one by one, just to trying to find a new cure, researchers have to take the place of an animal so it won't risk human lives. “Believes that animal research is a vital part of the scientific process. For over 150 years research using animals has advanced scientific understanding of human and animal health and the impact of the environment on wildlife. Animal research has given us many treatments for critical conditions such as cancer and diabetes, and has allowed the development of preventive measures such as human vaccines.” (“Understanding Animal Research” 1). The researchers believe that being a part of animal research has helped, in the past hundred years it has helped discover unknown problems that happen in humans. It also has helped environmental health, animal health, and it has helped some diseases that can't be curable. It has helped people cure cancers and other diseases that are hard to cure. There have been so many breakthroughs in finding out how to help fix the problems we humans are having. Professor Elizabeth Fisher says, “Medical scientists use many methods, including computer models, cell cultures, DNA chips and human studies to better understand human and animal bodies, and the diseases which affect them.” (1). Human cell chips can impact someone's DNA, so then no more testing on animals. Want to use human cell chips to help diseases and there is a chance that won't work and it may not be effective. This way, learning about the animals is very effective and it has help find so many cures and ways to look at a illness and help to find out where it's really coming from. Professor Elizabeth Fisher writes, “Common in people with Down Syndrome, we crossed two different types of mouse together and saw a result that was both unexpected, and that would have been impossible to see in cells grown in a dish.”(1). Researchers found out that people with Down’s Syndrome have extra chromosomes, they couldn't find this information out on a cell petri dish. The researchers can't do research on cell chips because there could be an endless possibility of things that could go wrong, unlike animal research that has helped for so many years.
Animal research is going to help us in the long run, for our human kind. Professor Elizabeth Fisher writes, “Nowadays we all take for granted the medical breakthroughs of the 20th Century: diphtheria and polio vaccines, antibiotics, modern anaesthetics, the treatments for childhood leukaemia that have allowed so many children to live full and healthy lives”(1). Now that they are in the 20th century they have more knowledge about what is going on, because of animal testing, it has helped cured many illnesses. If they didn’t have animal testing they wouldn’t have been able to find all these cures for so many different diseases. So many families still have their families with them until this day. It’s all because of animals testing and how animals show them how the human body looks and works. Then for animals to be tested shows them how to be able to cure diseases. Animal testing is the most important part of the society, because it helps people find new cures, to stop viruses from spreading, and to stop a lot of illnesses. The perspective is to keep animal testing going and not to stop it because it helping everyone.

Reflection: I still have the same outlook on my topic, because the side against animal testing has more evidence, and more facts about humans and animals for both how animals are really treated in these places, and how some of the tests that are done on animals don’t even work. Now that I look at animal testing as a good thing I can see what the other side was talking about, and how it has been helpful to many illnesses and diseases, and it has cured many of different things. I know now that my own values that I feel Strongly about animals and how the are getting treated, because now I know that animals do have there own mind and they are so much alike humans, so animals should be treated the same way as humans are treated. For the other sides values I know that animals have saved and helped a lot of humans lives and not only that but also that it has helped humans find cures for a lot of different disease that we encounter in life that we couldn’t do without animals. There are a lot of people that still have their family members with them because of animal testing, and all the diseases it has cured. I have also learned a lot about democracy by doing this project. Animal testing has been doing on and it’s still going on t this day and nothing has changed in our world. That just shows me that are democracy hasn’t changed at all in our world because there is not really anything that I can do expent for make my stance on the issue, but I really think it needs to end. My political views are on animal testing have not changed they are the same way as they were, because there should be a change in animal testing and there shouldn't be animal testing anymore. There are many of other ways to people people without the drug being first tested on animals there is such a way to make cures still happening, it is called a DNA cell chip, that respects DNA to make it where animals don't have to be tested on anymore. The DNA cell chip could help us even find more cures for cancers. I know that animal testing can be more useful by having a real life thing be there for them.I know it helps colleges and the people that need to study about these animals need them, to learn what's going on and to help save human lives. I still don't think that animal testing is right because animals were not met to be tested on animals have a different purpose. It is still a form of abuse for the animals, because the animals don't have any say on to what is happening with them. I agree with the Green Party to end animal experiments, but it is hard to say that it will go through and there will be an outcome of it, because I am all for change.
